Both
Anahim and Nimpo Lake are
located approximately 200 miles west of Williams Lake
on Highway 20 West. The highway is paved the entire
way and is generally
in good condition in winter. The drive offers a wonderful
view of the country from rolling hills at Riske Creek
to your first view of the magnificent Coastals at Redstone
and Tatla Lake.
Anahim
Lake has an airport, so you can also fly here
from Vancouver, Victoria, or Bella Coola with Pacific
Coastal Airlines. There is at least one flight
mid day in winter, and at least two or more flights
during the summer season.
Pacific Coastal's headquarters are located at the Vancouver
International Airport in the South Terminal. They have
a super Customer Service department where you can call
at 1-800-663-2872 for their rates and schedules or go
to their web site at http://www.pacificcoastal.com
For those of you who own or operate your own aircraft,
the Anahim Lake Airport has an excellent
paved strip
and airport services. Aerotech Services offers a waiting
area, snacks and soft drinks and lots of local lore!!
Airport Coordinates are: Elev 3635`
N52 27 08 W125 18 11.
BC Ferries has a scheduled run
up the BC coast during the summer and winter season.
The Ferry stops at Bella Coola, so if you want to make
a circuit trip with your vehicle through our area to
see mountains and ocean, this is a great
way to do it! For information on the ferry schedules
and rates, go to their web site at http://www.bcferries.com.
Locally, there is a flight service available at the
Nimpo Lake Floatplane Base. Tweedsmuir
Air Services is 'the source' for fly out
fishing in the area. Whether it's
flying out drive-in customers or guests staying at one
of the lodges they fly for, you will be in for the adventure
of your life! Seeing the country from the air is absolutely
one of the best ways to comprehend the magnitude and
beauty of Hunlen Falls, alpine lakes and
glaciers, the Monarch Icefields and much,
much more.
By floatplane is the only way to access wonderful Rainbow
Trout fishing, Cutthroat and Cut'bow fishing
on the remote lakes. Contact them at
1-800-668-4335 or go to their web site at http://www.tweedsmuirair.com
One
thing that you must realize about this country, is that
there is only one highway in and out. There are no taxis,
buses, or vehicle
rental outlets except in Bella Coola. All of the resorts
and lodges offer shuttle services to the airport, and
some offer a courtesy vehicle in some cases. Otherwise,
when planning a visit, plan to bring your own vehicle,
or make prior arrangements for some form of transportation.
Keep in mind too, that you should have good winter tires
if you are planning a winter vacation and watch out
for animals on the road in all seasons.
